Expert Advice: How Instagram influences Spring 2022’s nail trends

Julie-Anne Larivière reflects on the impact of social media on nail colours, shapes and styles for the forthcoming season.

Julie-Anne Larivière.Now more than ever it is getting harder to predict what new trends will make their way onto the nail world as we are now very much dictated by social media and influencers.

Someone will create something and boom, this will all of a sudden become the next big thing. I would say now more than ever it is super important for anyone in the nail industry to keep a close eye on social media, especially Instagram, if they are wanting to keep up to date on trends.

2022 spring nail art trends

The trends that will most likely be still big [this] year are the tortoiseshell, the French manicure (twists on the classic included too), stone/marble effects, mismatched nail art.

Also, negative space, geometric or animal print designs, chrome finishes or over the top embellishments such as loose glitters/sequins or gems.

Colourways

The shades will be bright and bold, like oranges, blues, and bright pinks but muted nudes will also shine.

Shapes and lengths

There will not be a particular shape or length that will be trending but rather a mixture of all shapes and sizes, from short square or oval or long coffin or stiletto, everything is acceptable!

These are all very different nail styles that can suit a wide range of clients.

It is certainly getting pretty important for nail technicians to know about these trends and also be able to offer them as we can expect clients will have seen these online and are likely to ask for them.

Social media makes nail art more accessible by often showing you what they look like in day to day situations, which then prompt your clients to try something they may have not tried before. Make sure you are well prepared for these requests!”
